Is it okay at this frequency of wc?
Hi All,
In a effort to get my baby silver back in shape I was wondering if it was okay to change the water(say 25%) every other day (aged water, removed chlorine, ph matched, heated at same temp as tank water). I know the water cannot be exactly matching to the actual existing tank water, but was wondering if this would cause too much stress on the fish. I want to get this guy healed up as much and as soon as possible...how about every days? Does that sound like a better idea? I will be adding melafix/salt at every water change btw... |

how big is ure fish? how big is ure tank? how much water do u change? what injury?
these are some factors u have to take into consideration b4 u can come to a decision. if a fish is too small, too frequent a water change can stress it out. however over time, the fish will get used to it. if too much water is changed at a time, fish might not be able to take it. i would go for the option of twice weekly, keeping ure water parameters stable would be a better option. there isn a need for water change every other day. PLUS i dun see any logic in more water change = faster healing. faster growth maybe, but faster healing? dun think so.. u are more then likely to stress ure fish out. small fishies are known to succumb to stress. |

My personnal advice is better don't change your water too frequent. I only change 10% per week. Got time where I tried to change the amount and the frequency as you and found that the bb is disturbed and got to spend sometime to build the bb again.

The aro is only about 6" long (about two months old?). He resides in a 90 gallon tank (I have a 180 already waiting for him as soon as he gets a bit bigger). He is currently suffering from some fin degeneration (looks like fin rot as his fins seem a bit torn and his left/right arm fins have a very slight black tip to them...thought it might be chlorine burn, but I made sure the water used for replacement at the wc's was aerated for 3 days with an air stone and chlorine remover added as well). I have been away for two weeks on business (gf has been tasked with feeding and she stated that the fins don't seem to be improving...as I was changing water..about 15% weekly before I left the business trip and after I noticed the fin problem(s)).
I started added melafix(and aquarium salt)..when I first noticed the fin problems. Anyway thanks for the advice. I am going to continue a weekly 15% water change (as soon as I get back home from work..and adding the melafix/salt) until these fins regenerate |
