Default FL for plants?

Hi, I have a question to ask u guys here. I kept some mosses and aquatic plants several of my newly setup tanks for my shrimps. I thought of getting FL light for them as it is cheaper.

Question is will FL be enough for the plants?

It depends on the needs of the plants that you've chosen. Some plants need high-light.

What species of plants do you have in there?

Yes if yours are X-mass/Taiwan/Java Moss FL not much problem. As mosses dun need so much light. Anyway it is the watts that is most important. And what is the height of your tank. I succeed in a 2ft X-mass wall with only 2x15W(total 30W) FL but it takes quite some time.

I don't really know all the names of my plants... only know I got some java fern and willow mosses.

My tanks are all of same size 31x18x19cm. I have several of them so i think most probably I will buy 2ft light to cover over 2 tanks.

If u are going to use the FL lights, please be informed to use those suitable for plants only, not the one that usually comes with the light. Have tried once and all plants die. Later buy 1 from C328 (NEC brand at $14 per pc) and works very well for most of my plants then. Just need to take note or will lose quite a lot of plants this way. Now I switch to PL lights for all my lights.

No harm trying out the plants and if cannot survive, consider others or change light. I know it is small tank.

BTW, my 15W FL light is only 1.5 ft long. Need to take note if u want to use on 2 tanks.

How big is your tank? Find a PL light than can give up for at least 3 watts/litre for your tank volume.

Try to get the names of as many of your plants as you can. Maybe you really don't even need PL lights.
