Default CRS Questions

hmm... very tempted to start but still not very confident about the setting up so need help from expert here to guide along.

A 2 x 1 x 1 footer (50L) can keep how many piece to be safe?

I intend to use undergravel filtration with 2 inches deep gravel base for this set up.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

50l can keep a few hundreds. With good filter.

What gravel do u intend to use? I use a thick layer of lapis plus a thin layer of ADA soil with UGF, it works well.

Another qustion is light. If I were to have some moss in there I need light. If I where to use those normal light set will it be enough for them and will it cause too much heat in there?

firstly CRS need cooler temp, if u leave the light on for very long, the temp of the water will increase, so advise you to either get a fan or a chiller(which is better).... normal pl light will do for moss

Not really true, it will take a long time, mine some are 2 years old, and I still resuse it or using it under non UGF use.

IMO, 100% of ADA is a waste as UGF and not intended to use as planted and it has some initial adverse effect. Your water will be bushing through the soil, fertiser and such will be brought into water column. Initial period of the water will have very low pH and full of fertiliser.

To use ADA soil as UGF soil, you may want to put a mess over the filter plate and/or put a layer of stronger layer of gravel in between, like lapis or clay based gravel (is a very good hose for bb).

hmm...... Looks like I need to go around searching for sand and stuffs first. What would be the recommended inche of depth should I go for each kinda sand?

total deep around 6cm or more is ok. How much each layer... a difficult question for now, the different type of gravel will react and end up with a final value which may require some tuning of pH before adding CRS.

I have 2 1ft cube tank, about 3 cm of lapis and 1.5cm of ADA Africana, the pH when too low at start, that I have to use coral chip to get the pH up.
