Potassium Permanganate (Toxic)

Treats:
Parasites - Skin & Gill Flukes, Trichodina, Costia and Chilodonella. Aids Bacterial Gill Disease and Skin Ulcers.

buy at guardian and mix with water yrself.........can use forever. otherwise just buy those purple liquid. turns brown after a while and then colorless.

beware of overdose~!

jus one or two drops extra can wipe out everything in yr tank~!

including the fish~!

i see c328 uses it quite often...

i think they use it to sterilise the tank, (aft some a number of dead or sick fish, then before they transfer new fishes into that tank)

coz, i often see 1 or 2 empty tanks, filled with the purplish solution....

cant be blackwater or blue medicine... its confrim purplish in color, like what SilverStallion posted in the picture.

PP is a very toxic substance, use gloves and don't get it into your eyes, you will go blind almost immediately even in diluted form.

It is more of a blanket "cure all" treatment, used when conventional methods like 0.3% salt or even 0.6% short salt bath is ineffective. Generally used in koi ponds whereby there are lots of unfavourable bad bacteria and stuff at the bottom or crevices.

It will also kill your bio filter, all the nitrosomonas and nitrospira will be gone. So remember to take out the filter and operate it in another tank/pail with aquarium water (not tap water) with adequate dissolved oxygen to keep the good bugs alive. Just merely unplugging the filter for more than say 2 mins will also kill the good bugs.

Administering the PP is also a systematic affair and you need to re-dose if it turns brown. After PP, you will need to do a good flush preferably with some diluted hydrogen peroxide to neutralise any residual PP. All in all, not recommended for aquariums and unless you really know what you are doing, better to do a correct comprehensive diagnosis and treat specifically.

potassium permanganate is a strong medicine ,basically,all illness and diseases can be treated by using it.However,one must take note of the amt used,over-dosage can result in killing the fish and "burning" the fins..etc.

must use lemon to remove the stain of potassium permanganate!!
(or else the stain will never come off)....
