Hi guys,

On the 13th April's morning, my partner called me early in the morning to inform me the female has given birth to 3 pups... We were so happy, and I informed him I won't be coming to view the pups until a week later, due to my work.

The below photo is the trio ( 1 M 2 F )



And this the mother ( 15 inches )



Then on the 22nd April's afternoon, my partner called me to inform that the 2 female pups has died... I was shocked to hear such news, and quickly rushed down to his place to check what happened... After checking all the water parameters, then I found out the PH has clashed and the water was still cold, even he has put on the heater for the pups.

This is one of the female pups...



Without any further consideration, I quickly packed the last male BD pup home to save it. And during that time, the male pup is in quite bad condition. But after a few days under my intense care, he has started eating like pig and happily swimming in my tank...

This is the present male's photo, just taken last nite...





End of the day, both of us has learned alot from this experience... And according to my partner, the BD pair has just mated again...

juz to check, after the mama gives birth, did u do any WC? what's the NO3 level?
From my previous experience breeding mantilla sp, my pups too had a high death rate after a few days of birth. all parameters were OK, except NO3 had gone up to 200ppm. subsequent batches has a better survival rate after practicing WC rite after mama give birth... but mine was in tank breeding, not in pond... juz sharing ...

Thanks bro... This group of BDs are in my partner's pond, and I believe he didn't do any water change after birth. That's why when I went over to check the water parameter, and it's too late...

i practice wc afterbirth in my 532fgt per mature pair irregardless of single pup or 3 pups,the amount of wc is about 1/6 of the volume.and i change 1/6 everyday for next 1wk.the pups are always with the parent same tank.so far zero death as compare to remove them immediately from parent.
i even notice the parent show greater concern/care towards weaker/smaller pup by making sure they swim instead of resting at the same place too long,which in my opinion is not a good symptom.
