Haven't come across standard off-the-shelf that runs on electricity (mostly on battery).

Hmmm......very vague, u did not spec the LED voltage and current.
Assuming Voltage is 1.6V and current is 15Ma
Calculation is.......

3V-1.6V=1.4V

Resistor is 1.4/.015 = 93ohm
So take the nearest resistor available - 100ohms.

ok... if u dunnoe wat to choose, go to the shop selling LED in sim lim tower, tell him(the seller) "i want to buy Super bright LED that use 3VDC power output. and the resistor needed."
Bring along the charger or battery along that u intend to use for the purpose. And just incase u scare the seller smoke u, ask him to connect everything with ur charger to show u.... if it goes "POOM!" then he really smoking u...
