I mean, really. Just take a look at domestic workers. Why do we need to impose a levy ? Aren't they suppose to help us take care of domestic chores so that our womenfolk can rejoin the workforce ? The maid levy is for what ? To make employers employ local people as maids so as to moderate the demand and dependency on foreign workers ? Is this even possible or probable ? The maid levy doesn't make sense. It runs contrary to encouraging our womenfolk to be in the workforce.

And to protect this means of legal extortion, many of us resorting to hiring temporary maids may get into trouble for employing illegal workers.
There is a black market for such business as we all know. The problem stems mainly from the greed of the authorities for easy profits and making it tougher for businesses to thrive. They opened the doors for businesses to hire cheap labour, then start imposing heavy penalties for hiring them, and strangle these businesses after they began to show some profits. The business owners LL began losing money and eventually close shop. Buay tahan. |
