types of sand to be used
which kind of sand is preferred as the sandbed for a reef tank ??
aragonite sand like crushed sea shells / crushed corals ? bcos i heard that they can maintain the ph and kh at a desirable level. is that true ? any disadvantages ? |

As far as i know, aragonite sand alone isn't going to be very helpful in maintaining kH and pH. The pH of seawater isn't conducive for it to dissolve readily to maintain kH. Correct me if i'm wrong as i'm not very sure of this.

Just the normal coral sand would do the trick. Grade1 or 2 would suffice. If finer sand is used, its recommended to add a thin layer of coarse sand(Like grade5) on top of it to prevent any sandstorm caused by water movement(especially from wavemakers).
