What type of sand is suitable for a new tank? Fine sand?

It does not matter , u can use any grade of sand to ur like.

To me, I would prefer grade 0 sand, it looks nicer to me.

If your asking for type of sand as well, crushed coral sand would be fine. Grade1 or 2 would be suitable choice.

If your pocket is deep, you can opt for live aragonite sand as well since the setup is new and live sand could benefit the setup.

A fishtank is just like your computer. When your tank crash(OS crash), its time to cleanup(reformat hard drive) and setup(install OS) again and add new livestock(re-install software).

Best if you can livesand from the beach... it contains the necessary bacteria... shorten the cycling time too. Or can be bought at LFS a bit costly though.

IMO, just one pack of live sand will be enough, the others you can purchase normal grade sand.

ya when I started the LFS(chinatown) recommend to use under gravel filter, so they ask to buy was a bit "bigger" ones. When second tank was finer but still I think is too "big" for the sand swifter fish lik e Yellow head and Diamond. These fish "eats" the sand & seems like filter the food then the  sand comes  out from the gills.
I guess to successfully keep these fish Inee d to have the finest type grade of sand

Those live sand is good but cost $40+ per pack.
