What type of sand is suitable for a new tank? Fine sand?

If your asking for type of sand as well, crushed coral sand would be fine. Grade1 or 2 would be suitable choice.
If your pocket is deep, you can opt for live aragonite sand as well since the setup is new and live sand could benefit the setup.

Best if you can livesand from the beach... it contains the necessary bacteria... shorten the cycling time too. Or can be bought at LFS a bit costly though.

IMO, just one pack of live sand will be enough, the others you can purchase normal grade sand.
