Gator gar have two rows of teeth on the upper jaw while other gars only have one row of teeth. That is one way of the best way to identify whether it is an alligator gar.

Quite easy to identify it from spotted gar at a juvenile stage. Short round snout, bigger eyes, teeth and more teeth. Ideal tank size would be as big as you can get. They will have no problems reaching 24". It's a carnivorous fish, can either feed it feeders or train it to take dead meaty food like chicken breast or market prawns. HOF might suffice for now, but definately not in the future. Take note of your ornate birchir, if it can fit into your gar's mouth, it's food for the gar! |
