But OHF seems a little on the inefficient side. Unless you stack alot of trays but then again, you need a strong pump to generate that overflow for efficient filtration.

hi,
for my preference, if to choose between caninster or ohf.. i will choose ohf cos more space for media.. my 6ft ohf have 20trays.. firstly, its a magic clean wipe follow by jap wool. the rest of the tray are mixture of bacterial house, bio-homme, ceremic rings, coral and bio-ball.

cheers

Bro stackdeck, the main thing you should think of is what are you keep in that tank! From there you can decide on the type of filtration for the 5 footer.. I think IOS and sump would be out of the question as it requires too much work? If your bioload is high, supplement the FX5 with a few layers of OHF attached to a powerhead. (Btw, bro riise is selling his FX5 very cheaply at the AF marketplace )

Filter wool would be a bad choice for canisters in the long run. The wool would be clogged up and will be too much of a hassle to maintain it... Canisters should be stocked up with media that maximise the space for the cultivation of beneficial(nitrifying) bacteria. Cheap ones to start with are "Mr Aqua" ceramic rings. Eheim substrat pro and Biohome and Biohome+ would be better.

Haha.. Yeah... Things at good prices move fast on the marketplace! You can look around at the setups around here for OHF as I'm not in the position to comment on it as I run my 5 footer on IOS and FX5. For the pump and OHF trays you can get at C328, if not, our marketplace will do
