Bro Kohaku,
With regards to how to differentiate between a tancho sanke and a tancho showa, the main difference is with regards to how the sumi appears to be. I may not know how to explain it well enough, but tancho sanke's sumi tends to appear up like in dot forms, and as tancho sanke are bred from Sanke parents, the appearance you will see on tancho sankes generally adopt the same type of sumi as that on sankes. I have read on forums that the general rule of thumb to differentiate between showa and sanke is that sanke do not have black on the head, whereas showa does. While this is the occasional case, I have seen sanke with sumi on the head. I think as you see more and more koi, how sumi appears on sanke and showa will be different and then it gets easier to tell between the two varieties. So therefore, based on my perspective, all the tancho we see here are basically tancho sankes. Even though there is a piece with very heavy sumi, that is still a tancho sanke. Bro toetoe, I think there are few rules to selecting good koi that have potential to grow. However, most important thing first is to like the koi you are actually getting, like what bro Kohaku mentioned. In terms of body wise, good body is generally those with wide and long head, long body that is able to pull as it grows, subtle hump on the shoulder as well as strong high and thick tailtube. I personally love fishes with high humps, looks very appealing. It seems to appear very strong and muscular with a hump.. Hahaha... |
