ur rocks seems to be granite if im not wrong.
granite not only increase ph but kh and gh as well which can kill crs in the long run. gh for shrimps should be around 4 -6 kh wise.. can some expert comment on this? |

based on Mizu World, Kurokinryu Stone does not affect water parameters and is safe for freshwater aquarium use. hopefully its true |

i hope u are right, because if your soil is brand new, your ph should not be so high unless:
1) your rocks leeched minerals which have increased your ph which means it has also increase your kh and gh as well. 2) you have done a huge wc. most likely is option 1. stay away from rocks for crs unless very sure that it wont do anything to your water. to lower ph u can either use peat or else add driftwood. driftwood will lower ph when it leeches tannins into the water. peat and tannins will brown the water. tannins can be removed with active carbon. hope this helps. |

Quote:
used to have the same issue, but this diy rain bar pipe diameter is a lot bigger, with more and bigger holes too moreover, i placed sponge inside the pump to slow down the flow i am using 2kg of biohome in 1 tray, if not soak, the top potion will be wasted Quote:
what level of kh and gh will pose a danger to CRS? is 4kg of soil enough to bring the ph of 40l of water down to 6.8? thanks for your help Last edited by dnsfpl; 16-09-2009 at 11:48 PM. |

i m honestly not too sure. but i have heard that too high or low gh will cause molting difficulties. low gh will cause the shrimp not to have enough minerals to form shell after molting. too high i think will cause their shell to be too hard and not let them molt.
high kh wise.. im not too sure. but im very sure that kh and ph are co related. so high kh = high ph unless you decrease ph solely using chemicals or co2. |
