Your lighting hours might be too long and your water circulation need to be
increase, Try zero light for 3 days before switching back to yr routine lighting hours

Had this green water problem before. I off the lights for a couple of days and run the water thru UV lights. It cleared up rather fast.

But now I'm facing another problem. Green hair algae. Anyone has experience on how I can get rid of green hair algae once and for all?

Green algae (on tank wall) problem too, but lfs boss recommend a orange color algae eater, which has helped reduced the algae boom (otto doesn't seems to like green algae).

tested water? maybe high nutrients and silicate, phosphate?

hair and wall algae are easy. hair algae can be taken care by yamato or malayan shrimps. wall algae are harder, don't think you can find something that eats it clean enough. Scrubbing is still required.

The biggest problem is brush algae, nothing seemed to eat it. Needs manual removal. And it keeps appearing once you have it.

i'm also having green water problem in my 2 weeks old tank.

it's a 1ft cube tank
back black oyama
beside the window
low tech DIY CO2
seldom dose fertilizer
3ft T8 light (this may be the problem? reduce timing?)

using small hang on back filter, so i guess cant install UV light filter? any other way to prevent it?

Your T8 is too powerful, what is the duration of your lighting now?

Having lesser lighting hours after green water will not help, i suggest you off the light completely for at least 2 days.

now i only on 3 hrs at night.

Mine is getting green water too...
1) Do u mean just off the lights for few days and it will clear?
2) Will it affect the fishes in complete darkness for days?
3) I have some java ferns, nana, frogbits etc..Will plants get unhealthy and rot?
4) In future, a lower wattage light will be preferable? Wat r the precautions?

Sorry for the noob questions...
