importantly how the fish can hold spread the caudal fin using the primary rays and achieve 180 degree, number of secondary, tertiery branching is not guarantee you get good HMPK line.

so much on caudal, we should not discount the shape and proportion of dorsal, anal and ventral length to consider as HMPK.

how about some pictures of real ideal HMs/HMPKs?

just last night I was having a discussion with a more experienced betta friend over the length of the anal fin. both of us don't seem to understand the standards set for assym hmpks.

everyone seems to want to impose his own POV on the ideal standard, eh, Robi?

Well there must be somebody with a picture of an ideal fish? Or do you mean all of us are shooting/keeping/posting cull quality pics?

Let's not divert from the original discussion shall we? As in every standard, there's always what's called a 'perfect' fish. But in reality, such a fish may not be found easily.

It does not mean that the fish we keep is a cull. We keep those fishes because we like them, for whatever reasons. They may not necessarily be perfect, in the sense of meeting a particular given standard, but they meet our own standard - for breeding, for enjoyment, etc. That's why I have always advocated that we buy and keep the fish we like, not what someone else likes. That way, your fish would always receive the best care.

i believe they are SD now. when they grow and reach hm we call it hm. when the fish becomes old and cannot hold its finnage to HM we call it SD.
