the trick is that i dun have any plants going into my thin layer of soil, my orchid is binded to the driftwood,

u dun 'water' the soil, i mist the mosses, meaning the moisture dun go all the way down into the soil and damage the roots if u have plants

and also one way that i learn is that the part of the substrate that u have plants can be substituted with fast draining materials like clay pellets etc instead of top soil that would retain the moisture that may damage the roots
