In spasmodic shock, it refers to the neuromuscular response to shock, whereby the muscles becomes contracted.
The severe and prolonged contraction of the muscle is what we referred to as spasm, or in layman term, cramp. Because of the contraction of the muscles, the fish spine would appear to curve, as shown in the pic. Cheers, Kenny |

u can buy chemical test kits (recommended) or dipsticks from lfs to test basic water param like pH, NO3, NO2, NH3/NH4. water in normal room temp (w/o air-con or heater in water), usually temp of water should be ok. i suggest u check with ur dad the amt of water change & how it was done as well as the medication added. |

As other bros have mentioned this is spasmodic shock (cramp). It happened to one of my aros before. I just changed water (aged) added some salt and a small powerhead to the tank. My aro would swim against the water flow. Recovered and strighten out in a week.
Heard before that this is more common among gold variety. Hope your aro recovers soon. |

From the history, it appears that the only change to the usual routine is the addition of the medication. The medication may not be agreeable with the aro, causing discomfort & eventually muscle spasm.
I don't suggest you reduce water levels. Maintain usual water level. There could still be chemical residue from the medication your water that could still be an irritant to the fish. You can start by adding activated carbon to your filter so that water runs over it. Leave it for 24-48hrs. At the same time add 0.3% salt & 0.1% epsom salt. You can add heater at 30 degrees. It will help increase metabolism of fish in the hope that whatever toxins ingested could be metabolised more rapidly. No other medication for now until the aro straightens out. Keep us updated of any changes. |
