Most medication can't cure dropsy. Dropsy r nearimpossible to cure for smaller fish.

Dropsy is just a sign of osmoregulatory failure. The failure to excrete water from the body leads to water retention & popping of scales & eyes as well.

The chances of recovery really depends on what is the initial cause of the osomoregulatory failure. A common cause of dropsy is kidney failure. This is usually untreatable & results in poor prognosis.

Infections can affecting normal body metabolism & affect osomoregulation. These infections might be resolved with antibiotic treatment. Normally a broad spectrum antibiotics such furan 3/furan-g or tetracyclines can be used. Feeding is normally withheld during treatment to prevent pollution & deterioration of the water.

Bear in mind that furan 3/furan-g are part of the group of nitrofurans antibiotics. They are banned for used in food fish because they can be carcinogenic, cancer causing.

Adding epsom salt at 0.1% & salt at 0.3% concentration will help reduce stress on osomoregulation. Treatment should be started as soon as signs of dropsy are observed. Always remember to dose medication at the correct dosage to prevent bacteria resistance & for best effect.
