canon 580 EX II and nikon SB-800
so far these two are the top of their range i think canon is better but why worry about the flash and not the camera itself? canon 580 EX II is nearly $800 nikon SB-800 is nearly $600 hmmmm how to stay withint the $1000 budget? |

sometimes spending on higher-end flashes r not justified for lower-end cameras ...
this is one vital point that u have to weigh ... ie. Should I be using Canon G-Series or Canon S3 Pro ... no point getting canon 580 EX II of which a lower-end is suffice .. unless u plan to upgrade later ... simply low end camera dun have suffice buffer to snap as fast as fast recycling time of higher end flashes ... flash sync speed limitaton from camera also cant push up to match the flash ...

hmmmmm okie... about commander and slave... you need a commander to fire off the wireless slave flash
D40x has an inbuilt commander, it can fire off the slave flash. D40 has no inbuilt commander, it cannot fire off any flash. D40 + Sb800 (commander mode) can fire off the slave flash because Sb800 now act as the commander for fish photography... i would really suggest the ease of dSLR and wireless flash... D40x + sb400 is a good choice i am using D70s still oh! by the way... please take note of flash sync speed... will be important to you soon... D40 - 1/500s D40x - 1/200s D70s - 1/500s |
