Actually no. Can you imagine the amount of money involved, and the people you could bump into if you try to poach the rays there. Those rivers are probably arms and drug smuggling routes too.
If you are lucky you get areested and spend a few weeks getting raped in a south american prison. If you are unlucky you will be found floating down the river, scared and bloated beyond recognition. Perhaps with a local guide and a few men with semis, but I rather pay more from the safety of Singapore, than to put myself in a situation I have to kill or die for a couple of rays. |

To enjoy such a trip must at least stay there for a couple of weeks and die die must catch some fish from the rivers to complete the experience.
Last night in Channel U, there was a Taiwanese travel show (Translated "The World Is So BIG!!!), the female show host travelled to Brazil and visited the rivers, fish mkt, local mkt, restaurants and villages. You can see fisherman hauling in crates and crates of pirahnas, pacu, peacock bass etc for local fish mkt. There was a scene whereby a HUGE peacock bass head with beautiful coloration was cooked in a claypot preparing to be served to the hungry patrons. Man!!! I still cant forget the look of the Huge eyeball of the fish. |
