Cause usually due to sudden change / vast change in temperature. Notably during water change.

Cure : Raise tank temp to 30 degrees, can use any parasite medicine. Should clear in 2 - 3 days.

Ouch. I didn't know it's contagious. Some time ago my ranchu kenna ONE white spot on its smooth cheek. So I scrape it off with my finger. After that everything is OK. Lucky me.

A word of caution, still need to re-dose for at least one more time. No visiable white spot on the fishes doesn't mean it's safe already, it might be due to the raise of temperature, causes these white spots (crypt form) to be matured faster and their free swimming form might have already been released into the water and looking for another host. All medications are only effective when they are in this form, thus, it is advisable to continue to re-dose for a couple of time to be sure that all of them have been eliminated.
This is the reason why some hobbyists (who do not know the above) complain that white spot disease on the fishes keep reccurring again and again.
Of cause, the ultimate/best way is still maintaining good water quality, this will reduce stress and improve immunity of your fishes.
