Scale rot is probably caused by poor water conditions or stress to the fish. Stress can come in the form of high stocking rates or aggressive tank mates. The fish's immune system is suppressed resulting in an opportunistic infection. It can be bacterial or fungal in nature.
Mild erosions as posted by Azn_Arowana_boy would usually heal with time if water conditions are improved. If scales don't heal & appear reddish or raised, then medication would be necessary. If the scales erosions are mild, I wouldn't recommend any medication. Instead efforts should be put into improving water conditions, eg. frequent water chanes, reduce stocking rate, remove unfinished food etc. |
