Are there any mini skimmers out there too....
Please correct me if I am wrong..... The water from the skimmer is already highly aerated so a air pump may not be required. I have plans to run an small canister (saw this cute unit at seaview, size about 10"x6"x6") the the output pump into skimmer.... Any one can into a skimmer too.... this looks cool.... http://www.shine7.com/aquarium/chiller.htm |

There are small skimmers out there for small tanks from brands like Redsea, Azoo, Jebo(I think). IMO, however, its not really necessary to get a skimmer for the tank size that you are considering. You can just get by with water changes. In addition, skimmers for very small tanks are usually driven by an air pump instead of by water pump. Air pump driven skimmers are generally not as effective in removing the dissolved organics.
Air pumps are generally not used to aerate the water for a marine tank. The reason is the bubbles cause salt spray. We generally use powerheads or wavemakers to agitate the surface of the water and aerate it. The water current is also needed for some of the fish and corals. And you are right, the bubbling action within the skimmer's chamber helps to aerate the water too.

Quite a lot of live rocks, rocks with green stuff grown over it, small deep blue fish, clown fish, few types of larger marine fish (between 2" to 4") and some star fish. |
