i more shallow... nuub in betta.. to me..

got D means HM or HMPK...

no D means SD

bigger then D means OHM / OHMPK

I keep betta since the time when HM is 6% of the spawn and

slowly there are "traditional hm" and slowly "straight edge" is introduce.... not so much thingy to think abt.... so got D means HM/OHMPK..

but all the above not important .. to me.. got D swee swee can laioz...

my 1cent worth

i mean this thread is started to make it clearer for people to know the standard for HM wad. Ultimately, the standards are based on what people judge at comp.

then that is COMP standard liaoz ma... but what you say is not wrong though. But if its D then you dun call it a HM then its abit weird liaoz..
if you wan to give the whole history of how the name is derived then its ok. But, bluntly said "it is not a HM" in cases like that then its a bit misleading liaoz(not particularly refering to anyone).

the above it my personal opinion only.. cheers

i believe is not something we should cast in hard stone must be HM or SD or HMPK when appreciating our betta, unless we want to go for comp standard

importantly, when we want to refer to the comp standard, let our view set to IBC standard.

You can become IBC member to get some documentation on standard definition for HM and HMPK. Even now they are going into a great length on proposing plakat standard to the current situation.

a regardless whether we want to follow is up to us as individual breeder.

so in order to avoid confusion, don't use the "highest standard quality term on finnage" liberally when we are not sure or we know is not the case.

would rather use general term like short fin or long fin, those people will appreciate your humbleness on this.

remember, not everybody know in great details of finnage definition, but almost all people like betta agree they are beautiful pieces a regardless of finnage

for example when i do dragon spawn, as majority finnage suffered, i don't mind keeping them in plakat finnage and slowly works toward hmpk. Still a beautiful specimen to my own opinion.

everyone seems to want to impose his own POV on the ideal standard, eh, Robi?
i would say as long as it is proportional to the body as well as other fins.

here are some definition of how an anal fin should be -

The anal fin has a trapezoid shape with the forward
(anterior) edge shorter than the rear (posterior) edge. The posterior tip
should be pointed. When flaring the rear edge of the
anal fin should overlap the lower portion of the caudal fin.

I think its quite hard to define an ideal standard for me, i certainly wouldn't want to have a collection of bettas with all the same finnage, just different colours
