Bro, u can do it. BUT bear in mind that the gar goes for 3-4inches dangly meaty things and the rays have nice long stings.

Strangely enough if u watch the Monster fish series on Nat Geo, the part on Alligator gar, the big gars all are at the bottom as well. The smaller gars I have are the ones who tend to hover near the surface. Don't knw if other gar keepers have same experience?

yea most prob the case for big gars that they will just whak one full meal and rest at the bottom to conserve energy, while waiting for the next prey to be within range.. my two big gars also seldom hover near surface unless feeding time
