No problem for me. I do 100% wc water every day on my tub. Only a small sponge filter as filtration. Been keeping for 3mths using this method, it really can grow alot and with good appetite. IMO, For gf, not necessary to measure ph level unless u are keeping those expensive ranchu etc..

Its always good to stay with the fish for the very first hour upon releasing them out of the bag just in case something like this happen.
good to keep some of the "old" water in the bag as standby.

strongly suspect your fish died due to pH shock.

our tap water is good to keep goldfish but must treat with water conditioner.

if you do massive water change every 2-3 days, there is no need to measure the pH.

What i do is i use a big container to hold the fish while the tub's water discharge out from the outlet till empty. Then i top up the water directly to the tub, add in water conditioner and salt. Use air pump to circulate the water for about 10mins (my bathing time) and add in the fish.

Try not to feed the fish an hour before and after wc.

100% water change also no probem, BUT your GF must be already customised to this clean water enviroment.

For people who want to consider adopting 100% WC, start with 50% first then work your way up to 100% else you risk killing your fish.

I have tropical fish like eye red tetra and red fin tetra in my GF tank and they all strive well in my almost 100% water change regime for almost a year now.
