Basic tips on aquatic photography

Typical result due to low lighting.

Not much that you can do but to increase the lighting and let the cam adjust the shutter speed and ISO automatically. Keep some distance.. say abt 10 inch gap between the fish & cam when you shoot.

Hi, bro. I'm using a Canon EOS 500D. Am planning to get a macro lens for aquatic photography. However, I'm quite unsure about lenses in general, as I only dabble in photography when I travel. Any recommendations for a good and reasonable macro lenses and how much do they cost? Am looking at no more than $300 budget, if possible. However, I would be willing to spend a little more, if the results are worth it. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Think cheapest is the Tamron 90mm F2.8 Macro. 2nd hand on clubsnap going for around $450. 1st hand probably around $100-200 more. Good lens from reviews, fast focusing although got significant sound from the focusing ring.

i 2nd the tamron 90, its one of the legendary lenses. very sharp and good value for money. i sold mine off to buy a macro lens double the price and i still prefer the tamron in many ways.

i actually dont really like its auto focusing as it changes the barrel length so i usually use manual focusing. as bro ami already mentioned, should invest in a good flash, esp one that can remote...really depends on what you are taking also la. flash gives the highlights and reflections on the eyes which i don't like. but for some fast subjects, no choice.
