Instead of remove i think time to impose levy and quotas on Employment Pass (EP). These are the jobs most Singaporeans are trained to took up (PMET).
Work Permit jobs which Sporean don't want to do also can charge levy of $400-1000 per month with hi quotas requirement. So an EP should be subjected to quotas and higher levy. Currently there is no quotas and levy on EP holders. I see no reasons why EP holders have special exemptions from this. This EP loophole allow many MNC or international banks to hire their own employee from their home countries instead of trying to help develop local talents. Many of the trading companies, banks ..etc all get their own local fresh grads to work in Singapore instead. |

.... all the govt measures using $$$ to curb are just ways which govt earn $$$....
why set levy or COE or whatever when they could just set a quota? why allow those who can pay $$$ to overwrite the quota? .... if the intial intent of these measures are genuinely to curb numbers, there are many more non-$$$ ways to do so.... |

Let's say u want to go to Indonesia to expand ur business, or Thailand or China ..... anywhere ....... u want to bring in people whom u can trust and u more or less know the attitude, mentality and skill-set ...... or u want to go and employ Indos, Thais to manage ur business ?
Whatever things we look at, cannot see from one angle only ..... Foreigners vs locals debate will always be there ..... but it is not abt foreigners vs locals ....... it is abt having a balance .... life is abt having a balance ....... |

But in Singapore even junior and fresh grad position also being given to their country fresh graduate because there's totally no restriction on it why would they bother to help train or give opportunity to local grads ? I'm not complaining about these companies, they will rather of course train their own country citizens rather than local but why our system even allow junior position to be foreigners ? If this is the case, when will our local fresh grad really can the chance to learn and move up the value chain. Know of a few friends in those MNC in finance, shipping line or oil industries. Especially those jobs with good prospect will go to the company own country fresh grad posted to Singapore and the salary their fresh grads are getting, many local fresh grads will be even willingly to take the job at a lower salary given the chance. For EP the balance is totally not there, very one sided. |
