Hi cloudyrain,

Thanks for the update!

Yup, as Fred would probably pointed out, that the problem with our tapwater now is that there're some unknown additives in there. In some instances, cloudy and inflammed eye had been attributed to bromine poisoning.

The good indication that there maybe possibly a high concentration of additives like chloramine, would be the pH of the tapwater. A reading of 8.0 or higher is indicative enough.

And yes, it is best to pre-filter the tapwater, as there are additives that cannot be removed by a dechlorinator.

As Fred had mentioned a while ago, he is getting more of such cases these days, with different types of fishes showing different clinical presentations, but mostly of the same etiology.

Haha, let me ask Fred to participate here, then we all get free consultation!

Thanks cloudyrain for the update!

Cheers,

Kenny

yes, i add water directly from the tap...

like u, i also change small % frequently.... around 1% at least 2 times a week.... sometimes more when i'm free....

but for my new aro, i changed no more than 0.6% during each of the 2 water changes in the past week.... (vet asked me, so i calculated at the vet's place)

i brought this up to the doc too, cos i believe there's nothing wrong with my water changing ritual.... (frequency v %)

however, he say the aro may have been affected when i'm topping up... (ie. the aro swim to where the tap water is being added in.... so it's akin to having big percentage water change with tap water)

this shd be the situation in my case cos for convenience sake, i did not ensure that the tap water was added in while the fish is nowhere near....

vil, u got change water at all?
i just did yesterday but it seems like have to take greater precaution, seems like antichlorine/amine may not be enuff.

hoping for speedy recovery now, catch up with you tonite

can confirm this line?

cos i doubt some of the impurities can escape via evaporation
if i am not wrong, chloroamine is quite stable too

In future, owner with large tank will have more trouble changing water. Imagine a 6ft to 8ft tank, how much water to change each time?
