These designations were used on exporter stock lists as well as the rochen book of stingrays which at the time was the most scientific book on stingray nomenclature. I still have them lying around somewhere. Anyway the 3 sub species were: p12 henlei p13 leopoldi p14 itaituba So to me, they are all PDR.. and what is pdr?.. polkadot rays.. black rays with white polkadots... and whether it's p12/13/14... they all fit this description.. PDR used to be the collective name for black rays.. like i said, it's in recent times that i noticed that the name PDR became associated with only p13.. i dunno why.. everything else i saw emerge in the mid 2000s onwards like eclipse, island, galaxy, BD, 321, etc etc etc was, to me, man's attempt to further sub classify the black rays to try and differentiate pricing. To me, eclipse and island aren't variants, they're just particular physical traits.. galaxy is just a nicer looking p14.. and i honestly don't know what the BD is yet.. |
