Eight Umno members suspended six years for demanding Malaysian PM Najib's resignation
PUBLISHED7 MIN AGO KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Eight Umno branch members from the party's Teluk Kemang division in Negeri Sembilan have been suspended for six years by its disciplinary board after calling for the resignation of party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. The group's spokesman Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman told Malaysia's The Star newspaper that eight of the nine members who spoke against Najib - who is also the Malaysian Prime Minister - have received suspension letters. "The only one who has not received it is me. Since I am the spokesperson, there may be something bigger in store for me," he said adding that attempts to contact the board were unsuccessful. Taman Datuk Haji Abd Samad branch chief Datuk Mohd Zin Mustapa told reporters that he received the letter on Dec 3, a day after meeting the disciplinary board on Dec 2. "Now that we have been suspended, we have no way of holding a position or to voice our grouses for the next six years. It goes to show that democracy is dead in Umno, but we are not afraid because we are right," he added. On Oct 24, several Umno branch leaders from the Teluk Kemang division had asked for Najib to relinquish his post as party president. They said they were concerned about the party and felt that Najib was not the right person to steer them to victory at the next general election. After meeting the disciplinary board on Dec 2, the members had said that they would not back down as it was their right to speak out. --------------------- Does the 8 include Dr M and former DPM? |

Open war against MB, Kedah Umno wants Mukhriz out
Published 20 Jan 2016, 4:15 pm Updated Today 1:19 am 44 comments A concerted move to oust Mukhriz Mahathir had finally been set in motion, less than a year after the Kedah menteri besar succeeded in staving off a rebellion. Kedah Umno deputy chief Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah today initiated an open war against Mukhriz, declaring that the state's Umno rank-and-file has 'lost confidence' in the leadership of the Kedah menteri besar. He also called for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to intervene and replace Mukhriz as menteri besar. "The entire state Umno leadership and elected representatives gathered here today hereby announce that we have lost confidence in the leadership of Mukhriz Mahathir as Kedah Umno liaison chief and as Kedah menteri besar," read Ahmad Bashah from a prepared statement. He listed four alleged reasons for the lost of confidence namely Mukhriz's failure to unite the party, his lack of strategic planning for the next general election, his failing to to lead and mobilise the party's machinery and his failure to manage the state administration effectively. "Therefore we appeal for the prime minister's attention to institute a change in the state's top leadership and also the Kedah menteri besar," he told a press conference in Alor Setar this afternoon at the Grand Alora Hotel. Ahmad Bashah's call came shortly after a meeting of top Kedah Umno leaders which excluded Mukhriz. Among the leaders present at the meeting were Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Jerai MP Jamil Khir Baharom and Kubang Pasu MP Mohd Johari Baharum. They were also present when Ahmad Bashah made the announcement of no- confidence against Mukhriz at today's press conference. Padang Terap MP Mahdzir Khalid who is in London, was represented by the constituency's former MP Ghazali Ibrahim. Also present were Kedah Umno youth chief Shaiful Azizy Zainal Abidin, Kedah Umno Wanita chief Maznah Abd Hamid and Kedah Puteri Umno chief Norashimah Md Nowar. Ahmad Bashah is presently domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism deputy minister through his position as a senator. He is also Bakar Bata state assemblyperson and is likely to be the main candidate for Kedah menteri besar if Mukhriz is ousted. Mukhriz is being targeted following his father Mahathir Mohamad's open attempts to remove Najib as prime minister. In April last year, Mukhriz was pressured by Najib loyalists to openly pledge support for the embattled prime minister. Mukhriz escaped from being cornered after his supporters pushed for a meeting of Umno Kedah division leaders which subsequently declared there was no necessity for him to openly pledge support for Najib. Related reports Salleh proves Umno the chauvinistic one, not DAP Dr M: I'm not giving up on removing Najib ----------------------- This will be interesting. Possible UMNO may split into 2? If it does, it'll be great. And wish that echo here too. |

'Tangkap Najib' graffiti mars Palace of justice
Published Today 11:41 am Updated Today 12:10 pm 6 comments The walls near the main entrance to the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya was vandalised with letters in red paint spelling "Tangkap Najib" and "No Justice". The graffiti was found noticed yesterday morning, reported Sin Chew Daily. The incident, which took place in the wee hours of the morning, is currently being investigated by police under Section 427 of the Penal Code, for "committing mischief and thereby causing damage to the amount of twenty-five ringgit". An auxiliary cop on his security rounds found the graffiti on the wall of the Palace of Justice's handicap ramp at 3am yesterday, said Putrajaya OCPD Rosli Hassan The vandals also drew the anarchist symbol on the wall, the infamous capital 'A' within a circle. National flags used to cover According to Rosli, the police has yet to identify any suspects, though cops have ruled out that this was done by terrorist group Islamic State. If found guilty those responsible can be jailed up to five years as provided under Section 427 of the Penal Code. It was also reported that court staffers used national flags to cover the graffiti as a temporary measure. Security patrols at the Palace of Justice has since been ramped up with two cops patrolling at the compound at all times. On high alert Police has been on high alert while public anxiety is on edge after the recent IS attack on Jakarta. Cops have said that they have stepped up security in public spaces and high profile areas, and that they have the situation well in hand. Several false bomb scares and terrorism-related incidents has been triggered around Klang Valley in the aftermath of the Jakarta attack and heightened worry over possible IS strikes in Malaysia. In one incident a mentally challegend man was reported to have tried to gain access to a military base claiming to be an IS militant carrying explosives. While police have also recently arrrested one confirmed IS militant with weapons and propaganda paraphenelia, with apparent plans to conduct a suicide bomb attack in Malaysia. But while fears of possible terror attacks are rife among the populace, there is also a similar rise in frustration and disappointment with the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, which has led to vocal criticism, mainly taking place in cryberspace and perhaps also vandalism. Police and authorities however have vowed to come down hard on those who dare to besmirch the 'dignity' of their beloved leader. ------------------ Aiya, that vandal also one kind la... just paste RM25 on the wall for the damage la... |
