A few questions here
1) Are these the right steps? a. Fill up container with water for aging. b. Use activated carbon for it c. Add dechlorinator to remove chlorine and chloramine. What is the time frame like?? 2) Do activated carbon remove both chlorine and chlloroamine? 3) Is it harmful in an situation whereby the recommended dose of anti chlorine/amine is added into the aged water which contains only a tiny concentration of them (either escaped or remove by some other means) |

HI Vil,
Your Aro jumped and hit badly isit? Coz Mine also had the same problem, but on the top though. Day 00 It jumped and hit the top bar of my tank so badly that the area turned Black. Day 01 Scale dropped off Day 02 - Day07 Scale growing back but the black mark is still there, but getting back to normal. Day 14 Scale fully grown but the still got a slight black mark. Fish still very happy and swimming around. Less jumpy now, perhaps it knows it hurts? |

I dont think its a jump
i used to think that the first aro was injured due to a jump (due to lost scales) untili witness how fast my 3rd affected aro can lose its scales in under 12 hrs due to the 'burn' |

Saw this article in the later Fish Lover Magazine.
Could it be the same? Not too good in chinese but will try my best? Cause: Poor water condition or huge temperature swing. Symtoms: Body scales around 5 to 8 scales will appear protruding. And with this area, blood streaks may appear on the scale. (Black zone??) If not treated immediately, may result a wider area with scales protrusion, dark color swelling? And will finally result in death as the scale could no longer protect the fish to external parasites. Treatment: During the initial stage, every 100L of water, apply 1 kg of salt, use appropriate medicine to rid parasites? Anybody good in chinese here? :P Increase temperature to 32 to 34deg. Increase aeration. Change 1/4 water after 3 to 4 days. Last edited by benedictsim; 05-11-2003 at 12:57 AM. |

thanks man
it looks quite a lot like that i believe the main culprit for our aros would be the water condition. woke up at 4 plus today to see something bad... the 3ft hospital tank water had turned quite cloudy, dunno issit because of the medication and salt and other reaction?? Another 3 ft tank which I used to discard the water from the hospital tank water chance last nite was even worse (from clear to cloudy in l;ess than 9 hrs???) Anyway, dun really have the energy and time to do anymore water changes, furthermore, my main tank water is running out of water to supply to the hospital tank, only almost 2/5 filled. Since I trust most ppl say that these are water condition symptopms and not infectious, I had no choice but to take out these 3 aros and rejoin them back to the main tank (already treated with AC for a day, plus some more conditioned aged water) for the time being. good thing is that they all have significant improvements, swimming well and eating properly. scales protuding has also cut down by quite a lot. Again, I would appreciate if someone can answer these few questions posted earlier: 1) Are these the right steps to condition the water: a. Fill up container with water for aging. b. Use activated carbon for it c. Add dechlorinator to remove chlorine and chloramine. What is the time frame for each step like? 2) Do activated carbon remove both chlorine and chlloroamine? 3) Is it harmful in an situation whereby the recommended dose of anti chlorine/amine is added into the aged water which contains only a tiny concentration of them (either escaped or remove by some other means Thank you. |
