Core 40-45% of pap voters didn't want any changes to the stability they are enjoying now. The rest of 25-30% are the ones that vote accordingly to the current needs and situations, maybe they felt they pap has improved and is more responsive in recent years. And of course the recent handouts and etc. Maybe in the past few GEs upgrading of flats and estate improvements were important to voters, but I think this GE not an issue anymore. So its important from the ruling party and oppositions on how to garner votes from the 25-30% in the next GE. Last edited by menthol28; 14-09-2015 at 10:49 AM. |

I think it is tremendously difficult for most people to be in opposition politics .... and I admire these people for their beliefs and their work ......
obviously there are some with an axe to grind who will very quickly be found out ....... Everyone needs to make a living, including opposition candidates but opposition candidates do not have a safety net ....... when they win, they go full time into being MPs ....... and at the same time, get derided for wanting to be MP purely for the MP allowance ....... when they lose, at most, supporters will say try again next election .... but who is going to support them ? lip service support The reality in life is people who talk alot are plentiful ..... people who do are far and few between |

U see the way PAP conduct their thanking parade. They hired a open top bus, whereas WP hired just a lorry, from there you can see how unfair it is.

each MP tithe their allowance to the party every month, the party is rich and can afford open top bus ...... unless PAP is using government funds to pay for party expenditure, otherwise it is all within their means |

Pap incumbent party since 1965, the party can't afford to hire buses? Can't compare as such with funds limited oppositions. Maybe if you want fairness, you should contribute your money to the oppositions as funds. Last edited by menthol28; 14-09-2015 at 11:14 AM. |

But there is also the part that they have to understand that Politics is not a game, esp when it comes to a nation like ours where everything is in delicate balance. And by losing, it's a gd time the opposition can weed out those who are looking for Short-Cut. Life's not a bed of roses or smooth sailing. Set backs make one stronger. It's alot of hard work and takes years to build trust and relationship. Fengshan is a good example. PAP opted to put a Grassroots Leader up against WP. Why? Coz the GRL has already built up rapport and trust from the residents (mainly older folks) for so many many years, I'm betting they know her very well. WP, as strong their branding and name and etc is, are still relatively new faces on the ground there. Den we look at TPL. Not sure abt you but my ah gong side.. we've really seen improvements and her goin ard to chat wif the ah mas and ah peks at the mkt area. I understand that she's a common face at the old folk's area too. No wonder or amazement she won hands down. Add on the ammunition given to her wrapped up like Xmas come early by NSP (Who lost his deposit). Den again, she's got all the time.. day in, day out... as a full time MP and no bread/butter issues. By not losing their deposit while doing nothing much is already some form of encouragement to them, no? Nobody is stopping them from going to coffee shops and chit chat wif ppl w/o donning party colours and getting a better feel of the ground and becoming a familiar face to ppl. Or lend a helping hand to others. Go back, look at what PAP is doing, look at the direction SG is heading, look at HOW the policies can be improved in long term and not just short term solutions. Don't just talk - as Tharman pointed out - it's one thing to say we can do this tat blah blah.. but the other hand, where will the $ come from? Again back to us. No offense to WP supporters, but I've had frens at Punggol East and Aljunied who voted in WP last GE, and were left very unhappy at how things turned out at their estates. Dun quite gel wif wad i've read frm strangers comments on FB, but these are my own friends and I think I know them well enough to take their word on it. Yes, funds are withheld - which is EXPECTED. Yes, they dun have support of many org - Which again, is EXPECTED. Which they are not prepared for. So they stumbled and fell. Next step is to get up, brush up and improve and show the residents they can do better. Let's face it. Politics IS dirty. It takes more den sweet talking and building anger to garner support from mass majority. |
