The FR can be seated in the following applications:

a) Upright in the cabinet hood
b) in the filter sump (in-sump)
c) hanging at the side or rear of the tank
d) sitting on the floor level
e) hanging on the side sump

For my tanks, they are using applications (c), (d) and (e).

I use the (b) method.
