hi folks,
i just got a 2nd hand dolphin MC789 chiller (2 fans 2 TEM model). the specs are power:180W My tank capacity: 30 Liters but it DOES NOT state the water flow rate? i am currently using Boyu SP1500F water pump Specs as below: power: 17W Flow: 855 Liters ================================================== ===== i have test run for 14 hours now and my temp is 24.5*C for 32 liters tank. is this normal or bad perfromance? how can i reduce the temp to 22*C? will replacing the water pump with a 6W 300 liters help? thanks |

hi folks,
ok i checked the temp after 30 hours of running. my 30 liters tank is 23.5*C now. but the hotside heat skin was not too hot. it was warm only. before i buy a new 5W water pump. any ideas why i am not able to cool further down? thanks |

hi folks
check the temp again it was 22.5*C propably due to rainny day. i notice some drops of water forming at the side to the peliter. it this bad for peltier? how can i prevent the drops of water forming? can i seal the peliter sides with silicon glue? will sealing up with silicon heatup the peliter and cause failure? thanks |

I think that condensation is fine, so long as no risk of shorting. Can you post pics for us who do not have this chiller?

Dear all,
Tried an experiment using a Peltier unit and I thought that I'll share the results. It was a very simple idea, just sandwich a peltier between 2 heatsinks and then immerse the bottom one in water and the top heatsink run a fan to cool it. Like this: The results were disappointing. The temperature was brought down by only about 2C, from 28 to 26 after an hour of running: In comparison, when I hooked up the PC to blow directly at the water, the temperature managed to hit about 24.5C or so. Given the cost of running the peltier and the fan, it is definitely more practical to use the fan, albeit with the evaporation that it entails. Cheers |

What happened to this thread?
Bump upon this thread and strike my curosity about this thermoelectric chiller. Thought that I found a perfect solution for my nano planted tank, but cannot find the Part 2 - Assembly tips. Only know that I need the following electrical components: - Peltier 8A (model CP1-12705) - need to have the dT by 4C - Heatsink with fan - PSU (96W, switch mode kind) What else do I need? How to attach the above DIY'ed to the tank? Guess I will not want to run this device for 24 x 7, so need to install a temperature sensor and controller to turn on / off the device. Any recommendation on what to get? |
