Advise on symptoms during cycling
Still in the midst of cycling and realised a few things.
Anyway, today ammonia already dropped to 2.0ppm from 8.0ppm. Phosphate level at 0.25. Share a 1st day set up photo for reference. Today, after 1 week of cycling, 2 black algae turned white, believed to be dying. More green algae and red algae growing on liverock. One of the liverock change position, is the pump of the IQ5 so strong?? confirm no one touches my tank. Plus 3 mini snails and one white mini worm with many legs (not those FW ones i've seen) start to appear out of no where. The worm sometimes will hide in the rock, sometimes come out to look see. Are these normal symptoms? |

some correction on the test readings. 1st day after adding ammonia is 8.0
Ammonia - 0.25 Nitrite - 8.8 |

Hi, you should subsequently check your nitrates as the nitrites will be ultimately converted to nitrate to complete the nitrification cycle. The difficult part is to see nitrate dropping which will come with establishment of the denitrification cycle. When you add in new livestock, there will be a spike in nitrate initially due to additional waste produced and accumulation of nitrate (converted from ammonia) unless you do regular water change. This will last until the denitrification cycle is established.

You mentioned that there's a worm, is it a bristleworm? If it is, do get those critters out.

thanks for the advice.. my style of testing water parameters for my fw tank cycling is usually, test ammonia till ammonia dropped, then test for nitrite till nitrite fully dropped then test for nitrate.. PH check is a everyday thing for me during cycling to ensure PH doesnt drop below or nitrification condition. this way, it saves me alot on test kit money. if i from day 1 start testing all 3 test, very big hole in my pockets.
