Default CRS' death

Hi to all experiences hobbyists,

I want to check if it is normal when my CRS, having the white part on the body turned pinkish and then died a few days later? I read recently from forum that it may be aged death.

Tank is 1.5ft
Temp: 25-26 as using fan.
Ph: 6.6,
NO3: 10ppm
NH3: 0
KH: 1
GH cant be tested due to API liquid tester doesnt work.

I had lost 4 CRS in 2weeks, they are from same batch and are already adult when i bought them. However in both situations, they died after i sprayed Mosura EROS. The first time i sprayed, all my CRS are fine, dancing and moulted in the few days to come. 2nd time i sprayed half dosage, i saw some exoskeleton but 1died 2days later and another died nearly a week. Sunday i did a water change, added 1/2 dosage old sea mud last night and sprayed 1time of EROS. this morning 2 died. But i realize in all these occasions, my CRS turned pinkish for a few days before i add eros n old sea mud, then they died.

Did the same for my snowballs but no casualty.

Do u guys think its age or the dosing?

One of the reasons CRS change colour is the water condition. If the water conditions are good it should not turn pink. (Pink is not a good sign, dead shrimps are pink)

Rightly when the conditions are ideal your shrimp should breed by itself without having to add eros.

Also using a fan to keep CRS is not ideal. Evaporation will raise the GH sky high. So I suggest you look for the GH test kit as soon as possible

So one likely conclusion on what happened is that the shrimp is already weak and you force it to moult so it dies.

Another thing is your GH could be sky high and you force it to moult but it is not able to and because of that it dies too.

Could be a case of force molting. I don't dose eros anymore now i just add abit of gravidas 2 days after WC.

The pink could be from the leakage or exposure of a carotenoid, Astaxanthin, which is why dead/cooked shrimps look orange pink.

The pink pigment carotenoid is always there for most colored shrimps but hidden by protein chains that encircled them, covering up the color so that the shrimp's normal protective camouflage colors are shown instead.

Protein chains can be denatured by heat or sometimes chemicals and when denatured will unfold and open. This exposes the Astaxanthin and turns certain areas pinkish.

From your description, something may be breaking these protein chains down.
One suspect may be the overdosing of EROS, since it is supposed to encourage moulting, it may somehow cause the shrimp to break down some of the proteins in the exoskeleton, including the ones covering the pink pigments.

Temperature swings may also be a culprit since proteins are very sensitive to temperatures.

Its all my own wild guesses, but like the other bros and experts said, go easy on the EROS and upgrade to a chiller if you want to keep CRS.

Yes! Very detailed sharing. Thanks!! My temp swing is between usually around 25.3-25.8. Im using 2 thermometer, one digital which failed me big time, the other is liquid therm which shows between 25.3-25.8. put as 25-26 bcuz of my digital therm.. :S

0.5 from day to night is it alot? For eros, I reduced the dosage to 1 instead of 2.5spray. Dosage like this is it too much?

I am going to get gh tester to try out later.
