How many Koi can a 4 by 2 by 2 tub hold?
As above, how many koi can this size hold? I bought those $2 baby koi.. about 7 of them to be exact.. current in a 2 by 2 by 2 indoor pond.. But decided to upgrade the indoor pond since i'm relocating it..
Planning to have a "Kance" height stackable filter.. with Bacteria House.. What do u guys think? How long would it be before the koi get too large for it and ideally, how many can be kept there without running the risk of them falling ill etc etc? Also, do these "cheaper" koi grow as large as their "japanese" counterparts? This is my forray into the world of koi.. would like to give it a shot.. seems they suit me best |

It all depends on how big you want your Koi to grow. I would say 3 to 5 is just about right. Don't make the same mistake like I did. I started with a 4x2x2 FGT as well. Bought about 5 kois initially that cost only $30-50 each, then keep increasing the numbers and the cost of each escalate to $100. By the time I realised, I had 15 kois in there. Being eager to grow them fast, I fed them 5 times a day. My filter can't take the Bio-load in no time and almost all the kois scumbber to disease and died eventually. How stupid was I. Anyway I did not give up and started buying again. I even got another 6ft FGT. Cost of each fish kept going up as well, as I try to go for quality instead of quantity. However, this didn't stop me from keeping as much as 30 Kois in my 2 FGTs. Eventually I had to rent a pond at the farm to house them as they are growing fast each day. My advidse is take it easy, don't get poison or else you will end up like me. Though it's easier said than done. |

Think 7 is ok right now if your Koi are not too big. But don't expect them to grow to Jumbo hor. Do show us pics of your Koi & set-up. Cheers!!! Last edited by Alex CHew; 13-05-2010 at 11:35 PM. Reason: add on |

hehehhh.. ya loh bro.. i prepared the anti-virus liao... infact, my wife feeds it to me so very often..
After my aro-virus and monster-virus and reptile-virus... She made sure she is standing by with the jap every morning.. she will dose me..hehehehhh.. Will post pics but nothing spectacular bro.. simple all black set up.. so if they wont grow jumbo then the size should be ok for 7? With good filtration and regular wc of course.. if so then i'm a happy man liao |

Hi Lex, $2 koi should be Malaysia kois and they tend to develope pot belly as they gets bigger. Their growth in general will be much smaller as compared to the Japanese counterparts. But keeping in small fgt does not have to worry about size too much as the small area will limit their growth size. Think the most your kois will grow to about 40 cm base on your fgt size.
You may want to limit on your feed and improve on your bio filter if you want to keep more. Buying nice kois can be a real joyful thing... Most people will buy and cull along the way. Part of the hobby i guess... |

the trick is to feed them less ... let them get hungry and they will greet u. it is normal for them to get jittery but time will make them more stable |
