Default Breeding Season 2016.....Sharing the fine Art of Ranchu Breeding and Keeping....

I had my first spawn just before Christmas 2015, but as the fries were only a few days old, I did a 4 day trip to China...4 days of no water change and came back to fries that were not doing well and I have to cull very heavily. Most of the tail couldn't open fully and the shoulders were mostly weak. These are some of those that I managed to salvaged....

Parents are Ozawa line males bred by Golf and Dew and the female is Kageyama.

I repeated the breeding 6 days ago and the fries as below and hopefully I can do a better job...

Wow bro how do you get second batch in such a short time?
Is that hand spawning? How do you change water for 2 days old fries? (Sorry I am not experienced in goldfish breeding, hope I can learn something from sifu here).
TIA

Thank you all for your kind comments. This is how I do water change for fries...I believe other breeders will have other methods and even better methods than mine. Lol I do look ancient and a bit old fashion, but anyway here goes....

The metal container is from Ikea and I wrap a net around it and tie it at the top...the net is fine enough that no fries can swim into container. Net can be bought from Spotlight at Plaza Singapura. Below the container I put a metal stand...tis can be bought from the wet market...the reason for putting the stand is if container sit on the tub floor...chances of sucking fries into net very high. Also the stand act as a marker for how much water I want suck out from tub.

This is how I siphon out soiled water without sucking out the fries.....

I like to do it early morning or late at night....our PUB water is cooler and it is dark....I use a led light to lure all the free swimming brine shrimp or daphnia and in the process also lure all the fries towards the light. At the other end which is dark, I put the stand and metal container and uses a hose to suck all the necessary soiled water out. Please remember put hose as central as possible and away from container bottom...wouldn't want suck some fries into the net and kill them.

To refill fresh water this is what I uses.....

The coffee bag can be bought from lfs...many hobbyists use that for storing their filter medias. In the coffee bag I put a small plastic cup and that is to reduce the current of the splashing water that I hose into the tub.....rest is self explanatory by watching the video below...

Hope this help aspiring breeders and hope more get into breeding ranchu as a hobby
