Species profile - Goslinia platynema (747 catfish)
Scientific name: Goslinia platynema
Common name: Slobbering Catfish, 747 catfish Family: Pimelodidae Origin: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru , Venezuela Maximum size: 100cm ( 3ft 4ins) Temperature : 22-27°C water PH : pH: 6.0-7.2. Description: this cat has the body shape similar to M Tigrinus. with dark grey at the upper half of the body and pale white at the lower part. You will also find one white dot above the head. It has 3 pairs of long “tape” like barbels which are very special/diff fm other pims. Care: Provide this fish with a large tank and a large filter and power head to create plenty of surface water movement and plenty of oxygen in the water. Tankmates: These fish can be housed with large non aggressive fishes such as stingrays, arowanas and other pims etc. Just make sure that they are of equal size or bigger as this cat has large mouth and will eat anything that fits its mouth. Feeding: They have similar feeding habits like most of the catfishes. They can be fed on bloodworms, small feeder mollies and other smaller feeder fishes. Breeding: no data available. Personal Experiences- Definitely it is a cool fish to keep. The Goslinia does this tripod stance using its pactoral fins in the front and its tail and it sure has an artistic pose to it when they do that…. (heard that only those healthy specimen will do that) No wonder the Japanese name it the “747 catfish”. Another species that have the similar behavior is the B.Jurunese. By amiidae |
