pH 6 -7 is ok. but, acclimatization is important. sudden change of environment is very stressful to these shy fishes.
another thing is, plecos are sensitive to ammonium and nitrite. they love fresh/ clean water with a lot of dissolved oxygen. if you looked at edmundo's video, can see he provided a lot of bubbling. in the wild, plecos are bottom dwellers in fast moving river, even rapids. fast movie river water has low to zero ammonium, nitrite and high dissolved oxygen due to the gushing of water. they live in pH of 6.5-7.5. http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/...species_id=642 for the quick death of the L191, I suspect it was not acclimatized properly. the shock of a new environment and sudden pH change stressed the fish too much. if there's ammonium and/or nitrite with low DO, then it'll be very bad.
