Default Office shrimp tank Need some advice from the pros!!!! Thanks

I would like to set up a simple office PRL or CRS shrimp tank. Need some help!! I am considering the following set up,

A) 1 sponge filter (twin head type) and 1 HOB only for media ( mr Aqua CR)

B) soil. (where can I get soil in loose packing? As its a small set up I don't require so much)

C) is minerals (BT 9 etc) necessary to go with the soil?

D) aircon is on 12 hour per day for 6 days per week.

E) looking to put in some dw and mini fissiden, mini nana without CO2.

F) where can I get some economic shrimps and above equipment. On a tight budget.

Please advise... Thanks in advance...

Sounds good enough.. how big will the tank be?

B) soil. (where can I get soil in loose packing? As its a small set up I don't require so much)

Try second hand/left over soil from forum marketplace.. do you intend to plant any plants in the soil?

C) is minerals (BT 9 etc) necessary to go with the soil?

Not sure for this.. I didn’t use any for my tank

D) aircon is on 12 hour per day for 6 days per week.

Consider getting a fan with timer switch if your office will get warm after the aircon is off.. fluctuating temperature is bad for shrimps

E) looking to put in some dw and mini fissiden, mini nana without CO2.

PRL and CRS tends to be more expensive.. if on a tight budget, maybe consider keeping cherries first.. they are easier to keep and much cheaper..

Please advise... Thanks in advance...

Hi. Thanks for info.
A) tank will be smaller then 2ft.

D) had experience with fan, water evaporate too fast. Can I use fan on the outer surface to cool the temperature instead of water surface ?

E) any help on this?

the filters u will be using would be sufficient

fan cool the tank via evaporation.. doesnt help that much to cool the outer surface

E) any help on this?

nanas and fissidens are hardy plants and can be grown without co2, but the growth will be slower..

A) Since your tank will be smaller than 2ft (1.5ft), the twin head sponge filter might take up alot of space (along with your HOB media).
B) You would be surprised at how much soil you'll need. You require at least a 3-4cm layer of soil as the base for your 1.5ft tank. I myself used 2x 3L H.E.L.P Advanced Soil SHRIMP.
C) No need for minerals if you use shrimp soil.
D) During the 12hr of aircon, your tank temp would drop based on your office's temp. During the 12hr of non-aircon, overnight the temp might rise by about 1-2 degrees.
E) No problem, just have to be v.patient. Fissiden grow super slow, not that easy to grow them too.
F) C328

A)Any plants which can survive without co 2 and easy maintain and suitable for shrimp?

B) any other type of "rock" or items useful in a shrimp tank?

you will be surprise on the evaporation level in aircon room!

On daily basis, your tank temp will be about 23-24 during the period air-con is on.
Once off, the next day will be about 28-30deg!

and over the Sunday, definitely 30deg!

Fissiden will melt....try others like pelia, etc. shrimp, if you keep the yellow and cherry, the temp should be ok.

can try all forms of moss or ferns.. if simple set up, a marimo moss ball will be good enough as it act as a supplementary food for the shrimps too..

better not put rocks if u are new to shrimps.. some rocks will leach minerals into the tank and affect the water parameters.. just get some porcelain hiding tubes or drift wood for the shrimps will do..

Agree with tohtruck, if you're not experienced or have not read up on the effect of the rocks, do not place them in your set-up. Marimo balls are fine, you can try Monte Carlo and Java moss.
