Learn something new regarding Epsom salt - has initially thought that it should only be used when necessary, such as as a laxative in the case of indigestion.

Epsom salt is used to relieve the symptoms of fluid retention within the body cavity (ascites), by facilitating osmo-regulatory function. Thus it is used in tandem with antibiotic, which would take care of the infection which resulted in the accumulation of fluid in the body cavity.
Thus, please do not take epsom salt as a cure for dropsy, but as a salt used for symptomatic relieve for ascites. I think the dosage that zenroger quoted would be used as a therapeutic (treatment) dose. Thus, for prophylactic usage, it can be lower, I supposed. Fish fish, As for using epsom salt to replace your normal aquarium salt, there's abit of difference. Soldium chloride has been used also for its anti-septic properties, as some may believe that it helps lessen the chance of an infection outbreak in the tank. Cheers, Kenny |
