My Red need help???
My red, now 12", sometimes jerks his body as if something bother his body. He has been doing this for quite sometimes now. I haven't fed it any feeders for a long time. I wonder if he is infected with any bacteria, diseases and if in fact he is infected what should i do? he's eating fine, swim normally. Just that sometimes he jerks his body. I always change water 20% every week and have the temperature around 80. I already add salt and it seem to help a bit. Please advised.

yah it does sound like a parasite. most likely external since he's shaking maybe trying to get it off. add salt for now and get medication accordingly. this is why i never feed any of my fish live feeders. maybe u should think of changing the diet. a diet of all gf is too fatty for a long run anyway and will shorten his life .

but if the jerking/twitching movement is very very frequent.....then there is probably some virus/bacteria. |

my fish does it like 3 times in 10 minutes. I don't know if the frequency is a bit high. |

if you see that it starts to scratch itself against the tank or filter or anything inside the tank...then start worrying. Or if you see it not active (just sitting on the bottom) or not eating anymore. Moreover...if you see that it twitches every minute now...then start to get worried good luck to your aro and to you |

i believe aro loves to scratch. my arows scratch againest the pipe until got scratches on the body. i think they love doing that. they will line up n take turn to squeeze between the pipes. jerking is not really very common tho. recently my aros like shaking their heads and yawn alot. i quickly the nextr day change water and add slt. this is a sign of bacteria. hope this helps

I just purchased a unit for a week now and already installed in my tank. Water is crystal clear.........and I really feel very secure that the environment has LESS bacteria and bad stuff in it but my aro still slightly twitch/recoils/jerks once in a while |
