Default Gh?

What is GH? I have this Tetra 5-in-1 tester strips which can test NO3, NO2, GH, KH and pH.

all of the readings are in good level except the GH. Indicates as
>16 degrees d.

what does that mean?

My aro is breathing with mouth open quite big even thought I have alot of areation and air stone.

Anyone can help?

General hardness (gH) refers to the concentration of magnesium and calcium ions in water. Some species of fishes require soft water whereas others prefer hard water. Although most fishes can adapt to waters of different gH, their ability to breed may be affected. gH is generally measured either in degrees hardness or in ppm (parts per million)

12 - 18 degrees should be moderately hard while 18 - 25 would be hard.

Thanks bro but can I ask, if the water is hard or have high GH, how do I soften the water or bring the GH down? I tried lots of Black water after a 20% WC but it seems to be the same.
