Unhappy What is this on the back of my aro?

Hi all,
I notice that my aro always swim at the top of the tank with some part of its back exposed out of water. It seldom swims with its whole body in the water. Also, I notice some 'pimples' like on its back. I have attached 2 photos of it. Previously (around 2 months back), it has been quite jumpy. It hits the glass cover and drop a few scales on the back. Now, it has grow back. Thanks for the advice. Can any bro/sis out there advise me what is it and how I can clear the 'pimples' like thing on its back?

hi bomberman,

i cant really identify the pimples
hav u checked the basic water param (ie NH3/NH4+, NO2, NO3, pH)? also, is it eating & pooing normally?

if the condition hasn't worsen, just ensure u've got good water condition. monitor closely. sometimes, these funny things juz go away in a few weeks time.

Cheers.

You can try 10% water change daily or alternate, add one soup spoon of aquarium salt...it has been working well for me when ever my aro have some unknown growth like cloudy eye (initial stage)..

Depend on the tank size. A spoon of salt is not enough. Use the tank caculator to cacultae 0.3% salt is how much. For a 4ft tank, 0.3% is about 800 over Gram of salt.

My suggestion: Add 0.3% salt, water change 1/4 every 3 days. Most important, check ur water parameter, PH & Ammonia. Waash or change ur filter wool.

Thanks for the reply, all bros. My water parameter is as follows:
PH : 6.5
Water Temp : 30 to 31 C
NH3/NH4+ : 0mg/l
NO2 : No idea
NO3 : 20-40ppm

My fish is eating like a pig and pooing normally.

The strange time is that it always leave part of its back exposed out of
water. Once a while (quite rare), it will swim down with full body submerged
into the water. Is this swimming behavior normal?

I have added salt already. Hope that the pimples thing goes away...

Hi bro... I had a similar problem with my aro several months back... apparently , this is partly caused by the water being too hard and lack of the normal fish slime.... I used epsom salt and regular water change and the situation improved after about 2 weeks w/o any permanent damage.
