Cories & Swim Bladder Disease (SBD)

guys, are cories very prone to SBD? just 1 or 2 weeks ago i lost one due to it. at that time i didn't know much about it and by the time i discovered it, it was all too late to save the little guy.

now i have another cory that has SBD and i just put him in a small makeshift hospital tank with about 5 - 6cm height of water.. should i add any medication to it or just let it recover for a few days inside the that small tank? i've a small airstone inside and that's about it.

any ideas/suggestions guys?

EDIT: oh just to add, their diets are mainly frozen tubifex and flakes

okay btw, my cories are well now. gonna observe them for a few more days before putting them back in the main tank again.

btw, here's some detailed of my cories' encounter with SBD yesterday morning:

Cory 1: totally floating upside down, tried to touch it with my hands and it quickly swam away with quite alot of strength. but in a matter of few seconds it went back to that upside down position.

i then quarantined this cory and put it in a separate tub with 2cm depth of water and an airstone.

Cory 2: 10 mins later started displaying similar but less severe symptoms. it would swim around but doesn't seem to be able to stay at the bottom of the tank. kept floating away every few seconds.

then i caught it and put it into the same tub with 2cm depth of water.

researched online, fed them some frozen peas that were mashed up beforehand.

i then went to observe them for a few minutes this afternoon and they were all well! not displaying any symptoms at all so i added another 2cm worth of water into the QT tank to help them get used to the water pressure in the main tank again.

i'm probably going to continue adding water for the next 3-4 days and feeding minimally with mashed up green peas. hope they fully recover soon.

just to share with you guys in case one day your dear cories have the same SBD.

bro, stop feeding first. SBD may be caused by excessive eating too.
then add Epsom salt and monitor its condition, keep us updated.


u can try getting interpet's swim bladder treatment too.

actually they are pretty stable now.. maybe i'll reacclimatise them back into the main tank after my WC this saturday... and yes i've been starving them.. read that peas are supposed to help with SBD, hence i fed them some of it.

maybe got to do with the frozen tubi i feed them almost every other day... too much wind? heh.

SBD can sometimes be due to overfeeding too. yes youre right peas will help and also epsom salt. its like a laxative for them.
