My african knife suffered from velvet before its whole body was practically covered with "gold dust", so to treat do a traditional aquarium salt treatment as you would with ich. Velvet is harder to cure than ich so you would have to quarantine it for a longer period of time. Treatment is best sought in a dimly lit area. Other than that maintain pristine water quality. The treatment took about 2 weeks before it fully recovered. Alternatively, you may want to buy the correct medication to treat your fish. API works well. The best med and most effective for Velvet is Copper Sulphate. I'll recommends that you go for Aquari-Sol from Aquarium Product (the same brand as Genesis). Dose accordingly to dosage. Perform 50% water change on every other day and continue treatment for 10 days to ensure 100% eradication. Cysts of Velvet is bullet proof so no med will kill it and it takes about 4-5 days at >28 degrees to hatch.
