Default Help with Aro broken tail

I posted this in another thread, but have received no replies and am desparate, so please forgive me for re-posting.

I just bought my first Aro, and when I got it home it jumped and split half its tail from the bottom upwards to about centerline of the fish.

Will this heal, or will it need cutting?

This being my first, I am at a loss for what to do, and I don't think there are any experts available to cut the tail if needed.

Any help would be much appreciated, particularly in what is required to make the tail cut.

Additionally, the lower fin is also showing a short tear along the body of the fish. Does this require cutting too?

hi bro! experienced this afew days ago.... read up n got some tips from bros here....

it all ends up to individual preferences... if u want the tail to look good then cut off the whole tail... it'll grow back in 2 to 3 months... depending on TLC, water management.... if not, u'll notice some eveness when fully recover...

as for the anal fin jus leave it alone and let it recover... guess less than a month, will recover....

As for now, most importantly is ur water management!!! it's injured, and ur water must be tip top... as it's more prone to infections...

add melafix to speed up recovery...

if u're here in SG, look up bro ARK, can give advice and do ops.... maybe some bros here can help u... or DIY... if u're going to be a serious aro hobbyist, then it's the best time to learn as u may face same situation in the future....

As for me, i just pluck out the damaged dangling fins as it was irritating my aro and left it to time to heal... don care about eveness or perfection.... jus want my aro to be happy and healthy...

Thanks Leonardo, you have eased my mind a good bit!

I am in Thailand so no chance of looking up ARK.

Do you think it is best to allow the Aro to acclimatise and recover a bit before cutting off the tail? Also any tips on how to handle it when catching and cutting?

The shop gave us two medicines; Bio Yellow Aquarium, and Pasma. Everything else is written in Thai (which I dont read). Don't know if we can get Melafix.

I will change the water every few days as advised by the shop, and keep the ph at around 7-7.5 as also advised, then hope it gets better.

Sure was a disapointment to se the fish damaged as soon as we got it. Been looking forward to having one for a long time.

I'm not really sure if it need to acclimatise and recover first. but logically, since it's at such, u might as well do it now.... y make ur aro go thru another round of stress? I did not use transmore to sedate it nor any other chemical. i used the old way.... i used my hands to force it to swim around and around till it got tired...SWEAT!!! for me too... but it was a breeze grabbing it with my bare hands, holding it tight to pluck out the fin and scale... within moments it was back to its old self and very active too...

Any med will do, as long as it aids in stress, torn fins, wounds, etc... but becarefull as some med harms ur BB in the filters and must change water and add carbon to rid all med once aro's ok... get the shop man to read the instructions for u....

look on the bright side bro... ur aro's jus have slight injuries....she'll be alrite soon and u've learnt something good... some people not so lucky, the moment they put in their new aro, the next day it died...

Cheer up bro... jus focus on giving her the best u can give... i'm sure she'll not let u down in return.... give her six months... u'll see her transform...

Anyways, i was in ur shoes a couple of days ago... felt bad n had tots of giving up my aro, lucky bro Aroboy II responded to my post and I got reassured again...hehe!

cheers!
