Help: continuous drop in pH and how to resolve?

The PH drop could be link from soil used. Can always buffer back using coral chips.

There are some who cycle over 24hrs, some over a couple of days, some a week, some 2, some 1mth. You cycled longer than that?

For me, if i'm using used soil/gravel, my cycling process is shorter, up to 2 weeks only. If i'm using new soil, at least 2wks cycling. Than again, I don't setup tanks often nor have I set up that many tanks to speak any experience.

Haha.. that post made me.. O.o.. i tot 1 month is the max to usual cycle a ammonia based substrate tank..

Navanod.. just fyi, i cycled my tank in 10 days.. LOL.. if 1 month, i think my shrimps all die from waiting..

with limited information given this is what i would do.

1. pour tap water into a container
2. measure the ph level of tap water in container
3. add some planta soil into the container
4. measure the ph level at certain intervals to determine if the soil has ph buffering effect.

what else is in your tank? care to take a photo?


i have experienced with low ph in my crs only tank...
